CROMER DEFENDS SC SENIOR OPEN TITLE FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR, FOX CROWNED SUPER SENIOR CHAMP 

Camden, SC (July 18, 2023) A scorching hot day added to the level of challenge the precarious Camden Country Club brings to the table. Temperatures seemed to rise by the minute and without a breeze, players struggled to see the scores they wanted. 

All eyes were on Burke Cromer, PGA, the two-time defending champion. His impressive round of 2-under yesterday left all expecting him to grasp his third win in a row at the South Carolina Senior Open. 

Ray Franz, PGA, however, had other plans and carded a tournament-low 65 (-5) to get to 3-under for the tournament, forcing Cromer to share the lead. It doesn’t end there, either, as Brian Quackenbush (a) also carded a low round shooting 66 (-4), also making his two-day total 3-under as well. That left a three-way tie and an extended the fight for the crystal. 

After the first hole, Quackenbush was eliminated after a disappointing bogey. The playoff went for four more holes, and on the fifth, Cromer stuck his shot to 15 feet and sunk the putt for birdie. Franz two-putted for par and while a good hole, Cromer was yet again crowned the South Carolina Senior Champion for the Senior Division. 

The Super Senior Division brought excitement as well, as both Stephen Fox (a) and Jim Pearson (a) walked into today sharing the lead at even par. The two tackled the early morning and the beaming sun but eventually Fox grasped the win by a comfortable two strokes after shooting 72 (+2). He will now defend the trophy as we look forward to next year.
