COLONEL STORMS TO VICTORY

Curt "Colonel" Sanders claimed his first Carolinas PGA major championship by winning the 2007 Carolinas PGA Section Professional Championship at Daniel Island Club on Thursday.  Sanders fired rounds of 67, 70, and 72 to finish at 7-under for the tournament and two shots clear of Simon McGreal, PGA and Kelly Mitchum, PGA.  En route to registering his first major the Colonel played a gutsy round in the driving rain and wind the final day, carding 14 pars, two birdies, and only two bogeys.  The Colonel's battle strategy of survival finally paid off for him.

Midway through the round Mitchum seized control of the lead, and looked to be on his way to successfully
defending his championship.  He then bogeyed the 14th and 15th holes, while the Colonel parred both of
them.  Then the Colonel put what seemed to be a stranglehold on the tournament with birdies at the 16th,
while Kelly could only muster a par of the reachable par 5.  Simon McGreal (playing in the group in front
of Kelly and Curt) was also in the hunt, and was tied for the lead through his 16th hole.  He then pulled
his tee shot into the hazard on the par 3, 17th and made double bogey, which sealed his fate and settled
for a tie for second with Mitchum.

For his efforts, Curt Sanders pockets $7,200.00 and 200 points the CPGA Player of the Year Points race.
The Colonel said, "This win means so much to me and I am really proud to be a PGA member.  I am
thankful for the second chance that I have gotten working at Eagle Point GC and God in my life."  In
closing, Sanders complimented the Daniel Island Club for their hospitality and the PGA for its efforts.

Curt Sanders will be joined by the other top 12 finishers at the Professional National Championship in June of
2008.  Top finishers from the event will qualify for the PGA Championship next August.
