THREE CHAMPIONS AT OLD NORTH STATE CPGA SENIOR

(New London, NC) - PGA Professionals Rick Morton and Rick Lewallen and amateur Steven Liebler share the Overall Championship title at the 2011 Old North State Carolinas PGA Senior Open.

The tournament's first round began cold and wet with temperatures in the 30's and a slight drizzle until it cleared in the afternoon.  Lewallen, a PGA Life Member of Kannapolis, NC and fellow PGA Life Member Ronnie Parker of Charlotte, NC posted matching rounds of 37-33=70 (-2) to give them a one stroke lead over amateurs Mark Hawley, David Waterworth, Spike Smith, and David Brown - all at 71 (-1).

The second round was a beautiful day despite an 60-minute fog delay in the morning.  Amateur David Liebler of Irmo, SC, who scored a first round 75 (+3), greeted the eventual sunshine with the best round of the tournament - a 35-31=66 (-6) that featured 6 birdies (5 in a row at one point) for a total of 141 (-3).  In the afternoon, Lewallen posted a round of 71 (-1) and Morton of Rock Creek G&CC in Jacksonville, NC scored a 68 (-4) for matching totals of 141 (-3) to tie Liebler.

Due to the nature of the starting times, it was determined that the three would share the title of Overall Champion.  This is the second CPGA win out of two events in 2011 for Liebler.

A sense of sharing also made its way into the Super Senior Amateur division where Dave Robinson of Burlington, NC and Hal Dugenske of Whispering Pines, NC finished in 148 strokes (+4).
